| Coating Additives Lapinus supplies fibres to paint and coating industry to enhance their properties and reduce cost. Applications range from architectural (decorative) paints through to industrial (protective) coatings and special purpose applications. Within paints and coatings, Lapinus fibres create a micro-network that binds all the components together and creates strong, durable and highly effective products. Roof & floor coatings In roof coatings, they prolong the lifetime of roofing materials by reinforcing the film layer, slowing down deterioration caused by UV radiation. Used in floor coatings in factories and laboratories for example, our fibres provide impact and crack resistance, so preventing liquid penetration and providing non-slip surfaces. And paints with our fibres used in car parks, for example, not only protect surfaces from liquid penetration, they also provide excellent resistance to mechanical damage, even soon after painting. Steel protection On steelwork, from electricity pylons to bridges, our fibres slow the effect of deterioration over time of the binders in protective paints resulting in less cracking and a greatly extended maintenance period. This frequently means structures can be painted and forgotten. Intumescent coatings Intumescent coatings applied to steel beams in buildings reinforced with our fibres increase the strength and integrity of the heat resistant foam produced in a fire, leading to improved performance compared to conventional intumescent coatings. Marine paints A little Lapinus fibre added to marine paints for decks prevents abrasive particles introduced into the paint from breaking out, creates much longer lasting, higher performance anti-skid paints. Similarly, our fibres used in road marking paint increase durability because they hold the reflective glass beads in place for much longer and prolong the reflective quality of the paint. For marine paints applied both to hulls and holds, our fibres give excellent flexibility and strength, help prevent cracking even under extreme conditions and allow paints that are far more durable and impact resistant. Special purpose coatings With frequent thermal expansion and contraction, engine paints are prone to cracking. The micro-network of our fibres, more heat resistant than most other fibres, added to such paints absorbs the tension and prevents cracking. Because even small amounts of our fibres enhance the properties of a paint, they can be used to reduce the content of expensive binder materials, hence saving cost. They can also be used to restore the strength and quality of paints after switching from solvent- to water-based systems.
