Lapinus fibres are spun at high temperature from high purity volcanic rock and man-made briquettes of precisely defined chemical composition. They can be supplied with the highest fibre content in the field with a fibre index (purity) of over 99.9%. Unique to our fibres are the various surface coatings they can be given, including aminosilane, sulphursilane, rubber, and cationic surfactants. Coating the fibres has many benefits, including improved bonding within the mix and improved dispersion and mixing properties.

All our fibres are inorganic. Unlike organic fibres such as cellulose, they do not deteriorate, nor will they support the growth of fungi or bacteria. Due to their specially engineered high-alumina low-silica chemical composition, Lapinus fibres are bio-soluble in the human body and are classified as non-carcinogenic.

Some benefits of Lapinus fibres

Reinforcement and dimensional stability
Due to their shape, Lapinus fibres provide reinforcement and dimensional stability to a composite. The superior performance of Lapinus engineered fibres compared with other mineral fibres is a result of their surface treatment, which ensures chemical or physical bonding between the fibres and the matrix material.

Improved thermal resistance and heat stability
The extremely high melting temperature, a result of our unique chemistry, gives Lapinus mineral fibres excellent performance at elevated temperatures, exceeding other fibrous materials such as cellulose, slag, glass and aramid.

Mechanical resistance
As a result of Lapinus fibres’ excellent bonding qualities, the mechanical resistance of the composite increases significantly. This creates increased performance and an extended life span for the end product.

While we can always tailor our fibres for special requirements, to meet the demands of particular application areas we produce a number of ranges of products for specific industries:
